Louisiana
Summary of Louisiana Statutes (August 2002)
Louisiana statutorily grants a patient a right of access to his medical
records in the possession of health care providers (including
physicians and pharmacists) and hospitals. The state does not have a
general, comprehensive statute prohibiting the disclosure of
confidential medical information. Rather, these privacy protections are
addressed in statutes governing specific entities or medical
conditions. Click here for the Louisiana State Legislature Web site.
